With reference to Mr. Edgcu¬be's letter of the
11th of March, a reply has now been received from the
Governor of Hong Kong regarding the contribution of
£250,000 from the Colonies towards the establishment ď
the Singapore Base.
The Governor stated that he would prefer to
hand over the whole amount at once in order to get rid
of a cross entry in the balance sheet, and suggested that
the Grow Agents should tran:fer the investment to
X.X.G./
The Crown Agents have now been instructed that
the sum in question should be transferred from the necourf
which they keep for the Government of Hong Kong to a
special account to be opened, from which they could from
time to time, on receipt of instructions from the
Colonial Office, make such advances by way of instalments
